Juice Journal

Why Juicing?

As I begin to settle into this new decade, I feel quite reflective. There have been highs and lows. Looking back on the last 15 years I can truly say I don't feel as though I have treated my body as well as I could have, and I am left with the results of this abuse. Overweight, sluggish and lacking the motivation that was abundant in my teens, I've decided it is time to "REBOOT".
One problem is, I am an American with certain rights, one of which is the right to eat whatever and whenever I want.  We as Americans must establish our own ceilings and restrictions necessary to maintain a healthy lifestyle. I need a new appreciation for the term "in moderation" the term can be too easily rationalized. so, to help Reboot and Kick start this process I am thinking about doing it with the reverse of the unhealthy food choices of past, Raw fruits and veggies.

Just in time as if by request a friend asked me to watch a video Fat Sick and Nearly Dead. It was then that we agreed to begin juicing. Her juicer was already in the mail. I decided to purchase a new one and I chose Jack Lalanne from Walmart for just around $100. It came with great a recipe books and good tips for juicing. the week prior to starting a prepared my self mentally for the challenge. I also purchased and began using the Wii fitness and so I am ready.

Day 1

My boyfriend tried to help me prepare for juicing by purchasing some fruits that I discovered, after reading tips included with my juice purchase, don't juice well such as bananas, and avocado. I enjoyed the process of unwrapping my juicer and reading through the recipes. Variety will  surely aid to the success of this journey.

To start I juiced a delicious combination of nectarines carrots, apples and cucumbers. The clean up was easy using the brush they included for the blade; I think I can do this. Kristie came over so I used a similar combo for the second juice adding fresh spinach. Remember : use the spinach first, grab a bunch and fold it  and send it with a more fleshy fruit or veggie like carrots or apple, it will continue to juice green with every added fruit or veggie. For dinner, I decided to spice it up with a  virgin juice version of the classic Bloody Mary using tomato, red and green peppers (including a half jalapeno) scallion, garlic and lime. the lime (or lemon) helps rid the smell of garlic and scallion etc. Not bad! I will work on this recipe.

The bartender in me is inspired by this project. So I think this will be my pattern sweet juice in the am , earthy in the afternoon and more savory at night , and back to sweet for the sweet tooth craving. Bring on Day 2!
